Barrow Statement on Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Approval of the Expansion at Plant Vogtle

Statement

Date: Feb. 27, 2012
Issues: Energy

Today, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved two new nuclear reactors at the Plant Vogtle facility in Burke County. The reactors - the first to be built in the United States in almost 30 years - are expected to be completed in 2016 and 2017.

Congressman Barrow released the following statement:

"I'm very pleased that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the expansion of the nuclear facilities at Plant Vogtle. Since coming to Congress I've supported the expanded use of nuclear power as part of a comprehensive energy policy. But this isn't just about more energy - it's also about jobs. Many families in Georgia are struggling, and this will create good-paying jobs for folks in the CSRA."

Congressman Barrow is a member of the bipartisan Nuclear Issues Working Group.
