Video: Kline Announces New Legislation, Shares Vision for K-12 Reform

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

In a speech at the American Enterprise Institute this morning, House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairman John Kline (R-MN) announced two new pieces of legislation that represent the next chapter in House Republican efforts to reform K-12 education.

The bills will encourage greater state and local control, support effective teachers in the classroom, and enhance flexibility. Chairman Kline has heralded the policies included in the Student Success Act (H.R. 3989) and the Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act (H.R. 3990) as a necessary step forward in the shared goal of improving education for America's students.

"What we're trying to do is make sure our kids have the best chance to succeed [and] get the best education possible; involve parents more [by] giving them more options, more choices, more say, [and] more input; more involvement and control at the local level; and a much smaller federal footprint. That's what we think we've done in this legislation."
