Cassidy Statement on Komen Funding of Planned Parenthood

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. released the following statement regarding the Susan G. Komen foundation's decision to restore funding eligibility to Planned Parenthood.

"As the husband of a breast cancer surgeon and a physician myself, I understand why the Komen foundation cut funding for Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood only provides exams, not mammograms, to women in need of screenings. In reality, breast exams provide many false positives. The science shows that the best way of screening for breast cancer is early detection mammograms. Planned Parenthood does not provide direct mammograms and only offers referrals for these critical tests.

"It is better for women and the Susan G. Komen Foundation to focus their limited resources on research and mammograms, rather than being buillied into subsidizing Planned Parenthood."
