Issue Position

In an age of terrorism we cannot afford to have inadequately controlled borders with millions of people crossing illegally at will. Eight years after 9/11, the government bureaucracy is so broken we don't even know who is in our country. This is a major issue of national security. We have an absolute obligation to control our borders and that obligation is a question of national security. This is not a question of closing the borders, but controlling them. The safety of the American people depends on it.

Border control is a matter of national security. Amnesty is an affront to the rule of law. To reduce illegal immigration, we must secure the border first with both physical and virtual fences as well as more patrols; aggressively enforce sanctions against employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants; immediately deport immigrant felons; require applicants for a temporary work visa to return home and maintain a tamper-proof identification card.

The United States is a special nation because we are founded on a revolutionary idea: That we are all created equal and endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We are a welcoming people who understand that people come to America for a higher standard of living, to escape social unrest and political or religious oppression. For generations, immigrants have provided America with a great vitality and robustness. Coming to America must mean more than coming for a job. Coming to America is about coming to be an American. And it must be done in accord with the rule of law.
