Cantwell on Komen Decision: "Great News for Women's Health'

Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement after the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation announced that it would reverse its decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings.

"This is great news for women's health," said Cantwell. "I'm glad that these two important organizations can continue working together to fight breast cancer and save women's lives. Today's news means hundreds of women in the Northwest will continue to get access to life-saving services."

Yesterday, Cantwell and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) were joined by 24 other Senators in urging Ambassador Nancy Brinker, Founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, to reconsider her organization's decision to stop funding breast cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood. In a letter to Ambassador Brinker, the Senators raised concerns about the possibility of thousands of women losing access to potentially life-saving tests for breast cancer.
