Issue Position: Government Reform

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

As an Illinois taxpayer, I am fed up and sick of self-serving politicians who have repeatedly abused our trust and misused our tax dollars. With the Blajojevich scandal finally behind us, the next General Assembly has a unique opportunity to restore trust in government. We must ensure that those elected to represent the people are truly working on behalf of the public and not to line their own pockets.

If elected, I will fight for legislation requiring mandatory jail time for government officials and employees who commit serious ethics violations and automatically strip them of their taxpayer-funded pension benefits.I will also support ethics legislation that shuts out special interests and provide voters greater access to government information and the budgeting process. It is time for the citizens to take back our government.

Government leaders need to be more accountable to the public. Currently, our constitution does not give us the option of recalling an elected official who has failed in his or service to the citizens. I support an amendment that provides voters with that ability.
