Pete Sessions Responds to State of the Union Address

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-Dallas), a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement in response to President Obama's State of the Union address:

"In tonight's address, the American people heard more of the same from President Obama -- another speech heavy on empty rhetoric touting his commitment to fiscal responsibility and job creation, but light on solutions to the problems Americans face. Unfortunately for struggling families and small businesses, the President's record proves that his policies have only made our economy worse.
"The President's tax, spend and big government agenda stifles innovation and discourages job creators from hiring. Since he took office, the American people have witnessed soaring unemployment for the longest time since the Great Depression and our national debt is now over $15 trillion, or greater than the value of our entire economy.

"Rather than promoting policies that divide Americans, House Republicans have offered real solutions to tackle our debt and deficit, encourage economic growth, and create an environment conducive to job creation. The House Majority has passed 27 pro-growth bills from our Plan for America's Job Creators on which the Senate has refused to take action for months. The American people demand and deserve leadership, and I believe it's time for the President to change directions and join our efforts to get our nation back on a path to prosperity."
