Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement Wednesday, January 18, 2012, on President Obama's decision against building the Keystone XL pipeline:
"The president had a chance to make a real impact on job creation, our economy and our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. I am disappointed and frustrated by the lack of leadership from this administration, not only on our energy policy but our economy. He has delayed this decision for three years, and now plans to toss it aside for yet more study. Today, President Obama has missed a historic opportunity to break our addiction to the oil we import from unstable, unfriendly regimes like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. In so doing, he has also passed up a plan that would create tens of thousands of jobs during these tough economic times.
"I have long supported an "all-the-above' energy policy and as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, look for ways to be more energy independent in an environmentally responsible way. This pipeline would have been a win-win."
