Issues: Immigration

Unfortunately, we have come to a point where trying to uphold American Immigration Law is seen as hatred and prejudice against Latinos. As Americans we have compassion for the plight of those who come here seeking a better life. Most of them are law abiding once they arrive, and should be treated with dignity and respect for their motives if not their means. Nonetheless, illegal immigration is not the way, and it must be halted. It undermines the rule of law and threatens the cohesiveness of our culture. Mexican and other Spanish speaking immigrants are welcomed along with all immigrants if they come through the proper legal process. We cannot absorb an infinite number of people and maintain American culture and identity. We cannot maintain an orderly society if we reward those who violate our laws to get here. While most illegal immigrants obey the law once they arrive, many criminals come in with them. Furthermore, illegal immigration itself is a criminal enterprise of smugglers and drug dealers. Until we as a nation get control of our borders and the illegal immigration problem, there should be a moratorium on all immigration except for special needs in the interests of the United States or a humanitarian emergency. The fence along our southern border must be completed and supported by technology and additional border patrol officers to eliminate the constant influx of illegal immigrants. The fence is an insult only to those who plan to violate it. It is time to stop trying to placate the world at our own expense. We are the most free, generous and giving nation on the face of the earth. If that does not satisfy them, nothing will. It is insane to craft policies counter to our interests in order to court foreign nations who will hate us no matter what we do.
