Hunter Statement on Administration's Rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline

Statement

Date: Jan. 18, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Representative Duncan Hunter responded to the Administration's decision to reject the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline today, calling it a decision made in the President's own political interests.

"Construction of the Keystone Pipeline not only represents a major step toward achieving greater energy independence, but it also stands to create thousands of jobs in the energy and manufacturing sectors," said Congressman Hunter.

"In coming to a decision, the President was required by Congress to approve the pipeline or certify that the project is not in the national interest. Instead, the President showed us all today that his own political interests come first, in this case at the unfortunate expense of American jobs and energy security."
