U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) last week supported Governor Perdue's request to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for a disaster declaration for Burke County from the violent storms that struck North Carolina on January 11. Hagan sent the letter of support to SBA Administrator Karen Mills. An SBA disaster declaration makes low-interest loans available for homeowners, renters and businesses recovering from the storm.
"I sent a letter to the U.S. Small Business Administration in support of Governor Perdue's request for a disaster declaration for counties affected by last week's storms," said Hagan. "Since the storms struck our state, my staff has been in contact with local and state officials about how my office can assist at a federal level. I encourage the Small Business Administration to act swiftly so that our communities can make a full recovery as quickly as possible."
