The emphasis on math and science education coupled with a reliance on test scores has been moderately successful, but American students are still behind other nations around the world. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) has failed to accomplish radical change even with increases in funding, greater personal accountability, and more stringent requirements for students and teachers.

The lack of a broad and comprehensive curriculum is short sided, and the result is students who are drilled rather than engaged in the process of learning. In some cases the focus is discipline rather than teaching. Without a sound education, the children of today and future generations will have fewer chances to succeed.
