Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that the conference report on H. R. 2055, the omnibus appropriations bill, includes increased funding for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The House approved that bill today, and the bill now goes to President Obama's desk to be signed. Earlier this month, Congressman Barrow led a letter, signed by a diverse group of lawmakers from around the country, asking that new funds be appropriated and distributed equitably across the county.

"I'm happy to see that more folks in Georgia will get help with their heating and cooling through LIHEAP," said Barrow. "The additional money for Georgia families will save lives this winter and in the upcoming summer."

Funding for LIHEAP is distributed through a formula that considers both heating and cooling assistance. The changes to the funding formula made in this legislation increase the amount of money Georgians will receive by over $40 million more than the President's request earlier this year.
