Broun Votes in Favor of Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011, which passed the House of Representatives by 234 to 193 votes:

"The latest unemployment numbers have shown that nearly 315,000 Americans have simply given up hope when it comes to finding a job," Broun said. "Our economy is barely hanging on as it is, and we cannot risk losing more of our working class to job-killing tax increases. The bill we passed tonight in the House of Representatives continues to provide the financial relief that American workers need now more than ever, and it also gets the ball rolling on specific measures that will create jobs. Moreover, the jobs package is completely offset through provisions such as repealing harmful EPA regulations, reducing subsidies for the wealthy, cutting funds from Obamacare, and freezing pay for government workers.

"Additionally, H.R. 3630 extends unemployment benefits while reforming the program so that job seekers are less dependent on the federal government. Of special concern to me as a physician, the bill also protects the quality of our seniors' healthcare as well as our physicians' practices, by fixing the rate at which doctors offices can be reimbursed for treating Medicare patients."

"I am pleased to see that the bill allows for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline which is expected to create nearly 20,000 American jobs -- some of which will be specific to the 10th Congressional District of Georgia. I hope that President Obama and Harry Reid can put politics aside, stop the veto threats, and start taking the necessary steps to put Americans back to work."
