Rep. Waxman Statement on Durban Negotiations

Location: Unknown

Committee on Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman issued the following statement praising the outcome of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, and the efforts of the international negotiators:

"The international negotiations, after going into overtime to come up with a balanced global agreement, have made significant progress building on all of the key elements of last year's Cancun Agreements. Our international negotiators made historic steps forward on issues of adaptation, clean technology, and transparency -- creating a regime that will monitor efforts by developed and developing countries alike to cut global emissions. Climate change is an environmental issue, a national security issue, an economic issue, and a moral issue, and we need to act now to adopt clean energy and climate policies that will prevent potentially irreversible damage to our country and our planet.
