U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Statement on the End of the War in Iraq

Statement

Date: Dec. 14, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Karen Bass (D-Calif.) issued the following statement in response to President Obama's speech at Fort Bragg in North Carolina to commemorate the end of the war in Iraq.

"Today marks the end of a historic commitment made by President Obama to responsibly end the war in Iraq, a promise he made from his first day in office," said Rep. Bass. "After nearly a decade in combat and more than 32,000 of our nation's heroes killed or wounded, the President listened to the American people and made the correct decision to bring our troops home now.

"As our servicemembers return home for the holidays, I will remain committed to working with my colleagues in Congress to provide them with the necessary resources to find and maintain adequate jobs, housing and healthcare. Our soldiers have valiantly served on behalf of our country, now it is our nation's duty to show our men and women in uniform how grateful we are for their service to our country."
