Rick Berg to Launch REGS Agenda

Press Release

Date: Dec. 7, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Rick Berg today announced the launch of the REGS Agenda--a path forward to reduce regulatory red tape, empower states, grow the economy, and stop President Obama's regulatory overreach.

"The number one thing we can do to get our economy back on track and give our small businesses certainty to grow and create jobs is to rein in President Obama's overbearing regulations that burden job creators with added costs and more red tape," Berg stated. "North Dakotans are frustrated with the Obama Administration's regulatory overreach and they're concerned about how these one-size-fits-all rules will hurt their small businesses and farms. I've been fighting to rein in these regulations, but there's more work to be done. Through the REGS Agenda, I'll continue fighting to bring regulatory relief to North Dakotans."

Berg's REGS Agenda will work to:

· Rein in overbearing regulations that stand as road blocks to economic growth and job creation;

· Reduce the regulatory uncertainty hanging over America's small businesses;

· Empower states by returning to them the power to enact commonsense regulations that best fit their unique needs;

· And promote job creation and business growth by providing America's job creators with relief from out-of-touch regulation.

The REGS Agenda is the product of Berg's conversations with North Dakotans this past year and learning about the impact that senseless regulations have on North Dakota farmers, ranchers and small businesses. Berg completed a regulations tour this fall to bring awareness to the regulations that hinder North Dakota's small businesses, and notes that the REGS Agenda will work to address some of the issues that were brought to his attention during the tour.

As a part of the REGS Agenda, Berg will continue to push forward legislation that will lift regulatory burdens that hinder America's families and job creators. He recently introduced the "Regional Haze Federalism Act," which would rein in the Obama Administration's federal takeover of state regional haze management, which threatens to create more business uncertainty, stifle job creation and increase energy costs for American families and small businesses. He also has long advocated for the passage of the REINS Act, which he helped introduce in January. The REINS Act will come before Congress for a vote this week, as early as this afternoon. This legislation will require that Congress take an up-or-down vote on every new major rule before it could be enforced on the American people and businesses, in turn providing energy producers, famers, and small businesses with certainty that rules won't continually change.

Later this week, Berg will also introduce legislation that would stop the EPA from over regulating generator use. This will save small businesses and a local school district Berg visited during his regulations tour hundreds of thousands of dollars in compliance costs--money that can be better spent educating our youth or investing in more workers. A public announcement will be made in Fargo in the coming weeks.

Berg intends to add to this agenda and introduce additional pieces of regulatory relief legislation in the coming weeks.
