Ellmers Calls for Support of Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act

Press Release

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this morning:

"We are fighting to get people working again. Today, the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act goes before the House for a vote. This bill protects all workers from a tax increase in January while preventing cuts to the Social Security trust fund to pay for it. We have to stop spending money we don't have, and that is why House Republicans are offsetting the cost of the bill fully with common sense spending cuts."

"My colleagues and I in the House continue to work to turn around the Obama economy by protecting American workers and job creators from tax increases, rolling back job killing regulations, and ending reckless Washington spending."

This morning, Congresswoman Ellmers joined Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor, Majority Whip McCarthy, and Republican leaders to speak to reporters about the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act. The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act of 2011 would provide a fully-offset extension of the current payroll tax rates, a delay in the implementation of the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (the so-called "Doc Fix"), and an extension of reformed Unemployment Insurance benefits.

The legislation would provide assistance to Americans suffering in the Obama economy, while ensuring that these policies will not increase the federal deficit by freezing pay for members of Congress and federal workers, reforming Unemployment Insurance, reducing subsidies, and getting rid of waste, fraud and abuse in some Washington programs. In addition, the bill would provide new incentives for job creation by extending 100 percent business expensing, removing burdensome EPA regulations and taking action on the bipartisan Keystone XL energy project.
