House Passes Sessions' Amendment to Analyze Impact of Government Regulations on Jobs

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), a Member of House Republican Leadership, today secured House approval of his amendment to the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act (H.R. 10) -- legislation that would require congressional approval of any federal regulation with an economic impact of $100 million or more. Sessions' amendment requires the report of a federal rule's economic impact to include an analysis of anticipated jobs lost or gained, and whether they are private or public sector jobs.

"Job creation remains my top priority, and I am pleased that the House has approved my common-sense amendment to ensure that federal agencies measure the effect of government regulations on employment across the nation. For far too long, unelected Washington bureaucrats have implemented excessive regulations without examining the real-world impact these rules have on job creators.

"Small businesses are the engines of our economy, and overregulation makes it too costly for them to innovate, invest, grow and hire more workers. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we free job creators from burdensome rules and empower the free-enterprise system to flourish. I am encouraged by the House's approval of the REINS Act with my jobs amendment today, and urge Senate Democrats to take action on the over 25 House-passed bills that would help get Americans back into the workplace."
