House Passes Payroll Tax Cut & Unemployment Extension: Measures Paid for With Federal Pay Freeze

Press Release

The House of Representatives today passed an extension of the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance, leaving only the Senate and President Obama between Americans being protected from a January tax hike and the loss of jobless benefits.
The tax breaks and benefits are fully-paid for through a freeze on federal salaries including those of Congress, and cutting subsidies for the wealthy.

"We have done our duty to preserve our economic recovery from recession, and have done so in a responsible way by not increasing the deficit one nickel," says Carter. "It is now up to the Senate to pass this measure, amend it, or pass an alternative. The House can now move on to conclude action on the 2012 budget."
