Congressman Chabot Signs onto a Bill to Prohibit Insider Trading in Congress

Statement

Date: Nov. 17, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) signed on to co-sponsor H.R. 1148, the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act (STOCK). This bill would prohibit members of Congress and the Executive Branch, as well as their employees, from trading in stocks, bonds and comodities based upon knowledge obtained through their position.

"I serve in Congress to represent Ohio's First District, not my own financial interests," Rep. Chabot said. "Members of Congress are public servants and representing our constituents is an honor, not an opportunity for personal gain. Insider trading is illegal, and should not be condoned in the halls of the Capitol. I am pleased to lend my support to the STOCK Act today and I would encourage my colleagues to do the same."
