Statement

Date: Nov. 28, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles Rangel released the following statement today on the retirement of his dear Colleague and friend, Congressman Barney Frank:

"I am sad to learn that my dear Colleague and friend, Congressman Barney Frank, will be retiring. For over 30 years I have had the privilege to work with Barney, who leaves behind a strong legacy of leadership and bold vision for which he will be greatly missed.

Barney has served both his constituents of the Massachusetts Fourth Congressional District and the people of the United States with impactful legislation on a diverse number of crucial issues from the economy to civil rights.

I was honored to serve as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee alongside Barney while he was the Housing Financial Services Committee Chairman.

Together, we were able to champion the American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act which was signed into law and was crucial for America as the housing crisis began to unfold in 2008.

I will always be thankful to have had Barney fighting alongside me in Congress in times both good and bad. He is a truly loyal friend and a patriot. I wish him and his loved ones nothing but happiness and well-being during his retirement and the next chapter in his life. I know Barney will utilize his talents and passion to accomplish many more feats while continuing to be a voice of reason in our nation."
