Congressman Boehner: "The American People Can't Wait" For the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act

Press Conference

Date: Dec. 12, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

At a press conference today, Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) announced that the House will vote on the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act tomorrow -- legislation that will help create tens of thousands of new American jobs, while providing relief to Americans bearing the brunt of Washington Democrats' failed economic policies. Following are text and video of Congressman Boehner's remarks:

"I'm pleased to announce that tomorrow, the House will vote on the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act, a bill that should pass, I believe, with bipartisan support. The bill will extend the payroll tax cut, extend and reform our unemployment insurance program, and protect the Social Security Trust Fund.

"It also includes important measures to help the private sector create more jobs. In addition to the Keystone energy pipeline and stopping onerous government regulations, it will extend the expensing of business investments. This expensing provision is something that was in the President's plan as well as ours, another area where we've been able to find common ground with the White House.

"This morning, a Democrat Member of the House endorsed this legislation and he said, "It is time that we come together in a bipartisan way to pass this legislation.' So I do believe it's going to pass with bipartisan support.
"And when it comes to jobs, the American people can't wait. So we're going to take action."
