Rep. Sutton Statement on GOP Blocking Richard Cordray as CFPB Director

Press Release

Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton (OH-13) released the following statement in response to U.S. Senate Republicans blocking the confirmation of former Ohio Attorney General, Richard Cordray, to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

"Today's vote to block the confirmation of Richard Cordray shows that Congressional Republicans continue to put the same Wall Street banks that plunged our economy into chaos before the priorities of protections of working families. Richard Cordray, who has bipartisan support, has consistently proven himself qualified for this important position that only aims to protect consumers and reign in the excess of Wall Street. He should be confirmed immediately so he can begin the work of giving families on Main Street a strong and equal voice."

Congresswoman Sutton is a long-time and strong advocate for consumer protection and providing a strong voice to working class families. A supporter of critical reforms that aimed at cleaning up Wall Street, Sutton has also fought to strengthen food safety standards and has passed legislation that protects Ohio families from food-borne illnesses.
