Cicilline Helps North Providence Senior Citizen Secure Medicare Coverage

Press Release

Date: Dec. 12, 2011
Location: North Providence, RI

With the help of U.S. Congressman David Cicilline's District Office, Lois Garganese has secured her Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit.

Because of extenuating circumstances, Mrs. Garganese missed a monthly payment for her Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. She was told that her coverage was discontinued, and she could not re-apply for another three months. With monthly prescription costs of over $600.00 a month, Lois knew she needed assistance. After contacting Congressman Cicilline and his staff, they immediately set out to resolve this issue by assisting with the appeal process with her Part D provider.

Congressman Cicilline's staff worked with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), Division of Medicare Health Plans, to work towards an immediate resolution for Lois. Within two weeks of her coverage being denied, the Boston Regional office approved the reinstatement, and Lois's prescription drug coverage was secure. She would have no gap in coverage, and to ensure her benefits would not be interrupted again, arrangements were made to have her monthly payment automatically deducted from her Social Security check.

Upon hearing of the resolution of Lois's case, Congressman Cicilline said, "I am proud to be able to help Lois and all those who are in similar situations, so that all Rhode Islanders receive the aid and assistance they need. Medicare Part D and federal programs like it exist to help citizens better manage necessary health expenses. That's why one of my top priorities in Congress is to ensure that all Rhode Islanders receive the assistance they need as simply and swiftly as possible."
