House Passes REINS Act to Limit Over-Regulation

Press Release

Date: Dec. 8, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bob Turner (NY-09) released the following statement regarding the passage of the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) act (H.R. 10) which would require Congressional approval for any new regulation that would have a significant impact on the economy.

"Throughout my career I have dealt with many regulations. While some of them were necessary, others - especially those affecting small businesses - created more paperwork than protection and hampered a business person's ability to grow and create jobs. That is why, yesterday, I voted yes on the REINS act which will give Congress the ability to approve any regulation that may negatively affect small businesses.

"My colleagues in the House and I have taken a measured and thoughtful approach to getting our economy going. We have passed over 20 bipartisan bills, each of which focuses on the areas that are keeping our job creators from growing their businesses. I hope with the passage of the REINS act, these bills will immediately be taken under consideration and voted on by the Senate."

Congressman Bob Turner represents New York's 9th Congressional district and serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and House Committee on Homeland Security.
