Blunt: Congress, President Must Work To Fix Social Security Instead Of Punting Tough Decisions

Statement

Date: Dec. 1, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement in response to tonight's votes in the U.S. Senate on the payroll tax cut extension:

"I voted against the payroll tax cut extension today because it significantly jeopardizes the future of Social Security by further separating the program from its main source of revenue.

"The reason we originally called this proposal a payroll tax "holiday' was because it eventually must end. Congress and the President need to work together to fix Social Security instead of passing short-term fixes and punting on the tough decisions."
