Leader Cantor: The House Continues To Work To Grow Jobs In This Country

Press Release

Location: Unknown

"We have just returned from the Thanksgiving recess a time when people came together to give thanks for the blessings in their lives. The people in this country remain very frustrated about job creation and frustrated about their economic future. As the Speaker has just indicated, I don't blame them for being frustrated. We continue to work in the House to find ways that we can help the jobs situation in this country. We have four bills up this week. We passed one yesterday and there are three more for the remainder of the week. By the end of this week, there will be 25 bills sitting in the Senate that Harry Reid refuses to take up that will help people get back to work in this country.

"We want to continue to find ways that we can agree. There are a lot of discussions going on in this building about how we are going to get out of here over the next two and a half weeks and I think if we focus on the areas that we can agree on, set aside those areas that have provided the most consternation and have eluded any kind of resolution. Any kind of grand deal that we have been after has eluded us. So let's try and work incrementally towards a conclusion this session that can benefit all Americans. We Republicans care about people that are out of work, we don't want to raise taxes on anybody. We want to provide help to the physicians and the providers in the health care arena in this country, and we want to make sure this country has a sound national defense policy."
