U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a current member and past chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today applauded the Judiciary Committee's hearing on a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to the Constitution. If a BBA is passed by the House and Senate, it would then be sent to the states for ratification.
"I appreciate the Judiciary Committee having this important hearing today. The Constitution belongs to the American people, and given our fiscal crisis and massive debt, it is critical that Congress pass this amendment and send it to the people for their consideration and ratification," Hatch said. "Utahns deserve an opportunity to vote on this amendment, and Congress should give it to them."
Hatch has long supported a BBA during his time in the Senate, and is the lead Senate sponsor of a BBA that has garnered the support of all 47 Senate Republicans.
