Statement on October Unemployment

U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) issued the following statement regarding the October unemployment figures released today:

"The slight improvements in our state's economy are heartening, but there is so much more that must be done to create the jobs Nevadans need. While we work to create an effective economic plan, Congress must also be mindful of the difficulties those who are currently unemployed face. For this reason, I have re-introduced a bill to extend unemployment insurance without adding to our federal deficit.

"It's time for the partisan bickering to end. The veterans jobs bill proves that when Congress has the will, it's possible to develop a bipartisan plan that can get Americans back to work. Instead of more poll-tested stimulus bills, Congress needs to come together to jump-start recovery and create the jobs Nevadans want. The twenty-two bipartisan jobs bills that have stalled in the Senate are a good place to start," said Senator Heller.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported this morning that Nevada's October unemployment rate remained at 13.4 percent for the third month in a row.
