Hall Statement in Honor of Veterans' Day

Statement

Date: Nov. 10, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

In honor of America celebrating Veterans' Day, Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) released the following statement:

"On Veterans' Day we pause to honor all those who have fought and sacrificed for our country throughout our Nation's history -- and all those who are fighting today. The freedom we enjoy is a result of their courage, their commitment, and their determination. Our Nation owes them a debt of gratitude and respect that is eternal.

"As we reflect on past wars and the challenges those have posed for America, we are mindful of the current War on Terror and of our soldiers who are fighting on the frontlines in Iraq and Afghanistan. And that's where we want the front lines to remain.

"We all look forward to the day when our troops can come home honorably and the Afghani and Iraqi people live without the conflict and violence that now mark their days. But even then, the War on Terror will require us to be ever-vigilant -- and to do all we can to protect our citizens at home from those who seek to harm us.

"Recognizing the service of our veterans is important, but we must also give them practical gratitude in the form of funding, and I will continue to support veteran funding, just as I always have so that our veterans have the support they need in training, equipment, and personal financial security.

"I am honored to represent the Fourth District, which has one of the largest veterans' populations in the country. These men and women have made personal sacrifices in order to keep America safe and strong. History has shown that there can be no peace in the world without strength. A strong defense is our best offense, but our greatest weapon is the power of prayer. May God bless our soldiers, and may they come home from the war as soon as possible."
