Statement on the Balanced Budget Amendment

Statement

Date: Nov. 18, 2011

It is unfortunate that the House of Representatives was unable to secure the two-thirds majority today to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. This bi-partisan bill would have forced Congress to finally address the out of control spending that has afflicted our country.

Earlier this week the national debt reached 15 trillion dollars. This comes at a time when our economy is struggling, the unemployment rate is high, and Americans are tightening their belts and doing more with less.

As the elected representative of the Kansas third Congressional district, I remain committed to fighting to rein in our spending and bringing our fiscal house in order.
