Burton Condemns Democrats for Engaging in Class Warfare Instead of Negotiating a Deficit Reduction Deal

Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) issued the following statement in response to the Super Committee's failure to produce a deficit reduction plan:

"I am truly disappointed that once again efforts to finally solve our Nation's fiscal problems have ended in failure. Despite multiple efforts by committee Republicans to reach across the aisle, congressional Democrats refused to negotiate in good faith. Democrats continued to insist on job-killing tax increases and never put a penny's worth of reforms on the table that would slow the unsustainable growth of the drivers of our national debt. Even more disappointing, those same people will now attempt to blame Republicans for trying to clean up their mess.

"America has never had a revenue problem; it has always had a spending problem and the American people understand this. Unfortunately, the Super Committee's failure simply proves that the fundamental disconnect between this Administration, congressional Democrats and the American people, is still as wide as ever. While Democrats spend their time engaging in class warfare, House Republicans will redouble our efforts to reduce the deficit by adhering to the fundamentals of Cut, Cap, and Balance. We have frittered away enough of the taxpayers' time on gimmicks and fuzzy math. We need to do something now, we can't wait any longer."
