Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) signed a letter to a leading member of the Appropriations Committee asking him to ensure that the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act (ANDA) is included in the final version of the Labor and Health & Human Services legislation for 2012.

ANDA prohibits any federal, state or local governments that receive federal assistance from subjecting any health professional, hospital or health care facility to discriminate against the person or entity that refuses to participate in abortion related activities. This pro life letter was prompted by press reports that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops is being targeted for its pro life position and another story that described how a group of 12 nurses in New Jersey was being forced to assist in abortions in direct violation of ANDA and their conscientious objections.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "I am proud to join my Congressional colleagues in urging the appropriators to include ANDA in the final version of the Labor/HHS appropriations bill. In light of two recent reports detailing discrimination against pro-life entities and persons, it is critical that Congress guarantees conscientious protections for healthcare facilities and workers who believe in the sanctity of an innocent human life."
