Sen. Hutchison's Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision to Review Constitutionality of Obama Health Care Law

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) today released the following statement on the announcement that the U.S. Supreme Court would review the Obama health care law:

"I am encouraged the Supreme Court will consider the constitutionality of the Obama health care law," said Sen. Hutchison. "It was poorly constructed legislation that is already burdening businesses -- especially small businesses -- and state governments with heavy costs. The fact that over 1500 waivers from the law have been granted shows that this law is unworkable. The legality of the law's mandates on individuals and states has always been under question, which is why I raised a constitutional point of order on the floor of the Senate when Congress originally debated the law in December of 2009. Now, with this announcement, I trust that the Supreme Court will overturn this massive example of federal overreach early next summer."
