The latest unemployment report, putting America's official jobless figure at 9 percent, has Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) calling on the Democratic-controlled Senate to put an end to partisanship and pass a set of job creation bills approved by the House.
"We have been talking about the "Forgotten 15' -- the 15 pieces of legislation passed by the House and awaiting Senate action," said Hartzler. "Sadly, since we started talking about the "Forgotten 15' the number of job creation bills passed by the House and being stalled by the Senate has risen to 20. This is ridiculous!"
"President Obama says he wants action on job creation and that's what Republicans have been doing," stated Hartzler. "The President could do something substantial for job creation if he were to ask Senator Reid to stop the game playing and bring up the bipartisan jobs bills passed by the House. Those stalled bills include the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act, the Protecting Jobs From Government Interference Act, and the Veterans Opportunity to Work Act. It's high time Senate Leader Harry Reid allowed Senators to give these common sense measures up or down votes."
"Today's unemployment figure is proof positive that the Obama Administration's policies are not working," continued Hartzler. "The policies of the last two and a half years have made a bad situation worse. It's time for President Obama to demand Senator Reid bring up the "Forgotten 15' for votes and to demand that now!"
The unemployment rate of 9 percent marks the 33rd straight month that the nation's jobless rate has been at or above eight percent -- the figure President Obama promised would not be topped if Congress passed his stimulus package. The stimulus passed and President Obama's economy continues to decline. It's time to move these bills and get America working again.
Vicky Hartzler was elected to Congress on November 2, 2010. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
