McCarthy Statement on Latest Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Nov. 4, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement regarding this morning's unemployment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

"As the greatest country in the world, there's no question that we can overcome the challenges we face, but for months, the national unemployment rate has remained virtually unchanged at 9 percent. The hardships that accompany our down economy are being felt everywhere, especially in communities like mine where unemployment remains in the double digits, and families continue to struggle. We can do better, and House Republicans have taken action to turn this economy around and get people working again.

"The House has passed more than twenty jobs bills, with bipartisan support, to empower small businesses to grow and create jobs. Just last week, the House repealed the onerous 3 percent withholding tax, which would have reduced cash flow and increased burdens for businesses like Bakersfield's DC Inspections. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid continues to bring bills to the floor of the Senate that are opposed by both Republicans and Democrats, but refuses to give the bipartisan House bills the up-or-down vote they deserve. Mr. President, Leader Reid -- end this charade so we can get back to work. The American people can't wait."
