Textile Enforcement and Security Act

Statement

Date: Oct. 31, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

North Carolina remains one of the top textile employers in the country.

But our textiles industry relies on proper customs enforcement to protect our businesses and jobs. Unfortunately, textiles and apparels, which have both suffered from increases in illegal trafficking and duty evasion, have the highest fraud ranking of any industrial products in the United States.

I refuse to allow one of North Carolina's biggest industries to be handicapped by a failure to enforce proper trade rules. Last week, I reintroduced my bipartisan Textile Enforcement and Security Act (TESA) with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to beef up enforcement and oversight on the trade of textiles and apparels.
