Fleming Votes to Repeal Job-Destroying Tax Provision

Statement

Congressman John Fleming (LA-4) joined a bipartisan majority in the House of Representatives today in voting to repeal a withholding tax that was looming over contractors who do business with federal, state and local governments. Implementation of the tax had been delayed since it was first passed in 2006, but contractors have worked under the threat of a 3% withholding on their government contracts. Congressman Fleming released the following statement after today's vote:

"Business owners continue to tell me that they need certainty from Washington. A relentless burden of taxes and government regulations are driving up their costs and making it nearly impossible to hire new workers. Private firms that work for government agencies have been bracing for a 3% withholding tax that's been on the books for years, but not enforced. Today, the House voted to permanently repeal this provision. The White House supports the repeal measure, which now heads to the Senate to join 15 other job creation bills that the House has also passed and that are awaiting action.

"The House passed another bill today that eliminates a portion of Obamacare. I supported this legislation, but with this caveat: the only way to really fix Obamacare is to repeal the whole thing once and for all. That's what I voted for in January, and that's what I will continue to fight for in Washington."
