U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt released the following statement today on USEC Inc.'s ongoing discussions with the U.S. Department of Energy regarding the American Centrifuge Plant project in Piketon. The DOE has proposed a cost-sharing agreement on a research, development, and demonstration program.
"I was briefed Friday afternoon on the proposal," said U.S. Rep Jean Schmidt, whose 2nd Congressional District includes Pike County. "While I appreciate the Department of Energy's efforts to move this project forward, I am disappointed that a conditional loan guarantee has not been made.
"I intend to fully review the proposal, but I remain convinced that the best way forward is for President Obama to keep the promise he made to Southern Ohio and provide the loan guarantee now."
