Ribble Statement on Passage of Free Trade Agreements

Date: Oct. 12, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Representative Reid Ribble (WI-8) today released the following statement about the passage of the Free Trade Agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea:

"The passage of these trade agreements will create new jobs and expand market access for many Wisconsin industries. The agreements will level the playing field for many businesses that were previously shut out of these vital markets. Wisconsin leads the way in many areas of production and these agreements will make sure that our state has the opportunity to effectively compete in the global marketplace. One of my top priorities is to get Wisconsin working again, and these trade deals represent a great step forward in that effort."

Agriculture is one of Wisconsin's largest industries and will be greatly impacted by the passage of the free trade agreements. Bill Bruins, President of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, provided the following quote about Congressman Ribble's continued support to pass these trade deals:

"Trade creates jobs and increases export dollars within Wisconsin. As a dairy farmer and President of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, I'm pleased that Congressman Ribble has continued his steadfast support of the three free trade agreements with a "Yes' vote. Wisconsin's beef, dairy and processed food commodity areas will be just a few of the beneficiaries of the expanded market share and new market opportunities that will be available, thanks to the passage of these bi-lateral trade agreements."
