Congressman Ben Quayle (R-AZ)released the following statement Tuesday after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the veracity of statements made by Attorney General Eric Holder during a Judiciary Committee hearing in May 2011. New documents raise serious questions as to whether Mr. Holder misled Members of the committee when responding to questions regarding the Fast and Furious program.
"I fully support Chairman Smith's decisionto call for a special counsel to investigate this serious matter. Drug cartel members, using Fast and Furious weapons, took the life of Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry near Phoenix and they continue to pose a serious threat to American citizens, especially the men and women who protect our borders. We need to know exactly what the Attorney General knew, when he knew it and whether his testimony before Members of Congress was truthful."
