Southerland Votes for Job-Creating Free Trade Agreements

Statement

Date: Oct. 12, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Steve Southerland, II issued the following statement tonight applauding House approval of three job-creating free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea:

"For too long, America's manufacturers have been at a competitive disadvantage in the global marketplace. Bipartisan congressional approval of the free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea is a critical step forward in breaking down barriers to international trade, potentially creating 20,000 jobs and generating $1.5 billion in international trade opportunities in Florida alone. While I am pleased that Congress has taken steps to ensure a more level playing field for American companies in the global marketplace, we must continue fighting to reduce job-crushing regulations and reject crippling tax increases on job creators here at home."
