From Chula Vista:
As a constituent and an educator, I strongly urge your support of the President's American Jobs Act. The American Jobs Act would help keep educators working - by preventing up to 280,000 teacher layoffs.
The President's plan would also modernize at least 35,000 public schools across the country, supporting new science labs, Internet-ready classrooms, and renovations at schools across the country, in rural and urban areas.
When we invest in public education, lower and middle incomes grow even more than upper incomes, positively impacting businesses' bottom line because lower-income people spend their new income on consumer goods and services. In a typical state, investing two percent more in public education generates 3,900 new jobs.
Congressman Filner replies:
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the American Jobs Act.
I wholeheartedly agree! The purpose of the American Jobs Act is simple: help to put more people back to work and more money in the pockets of working Americans, and it won't add a dime to the deficit.
Every day, people in this country are working hard to meet their responsibilities. It is time for Congress to meet ours. Congress needs to put country ahead of politics and pass the American Jobs Act!
