Rep. Becerra on Anti-Choice Bill: "House has No Time for the Jobs Bill, Plenty of Time for Divisive Politics"

Statement

Date: Oct. 13, 2011

Today the Republican majority in the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 358, legislation that would restrict women's access to reproductive health care services. Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, voted against the bill and released the following statement:

"The American people demand that we drop the divisive political posturing and focus on creating jobs in America. Apparently this House has no time for the President's jobs proposal to put millions of Americans back to work, but it has plenty of time for legislation that has no chance of becoming law. Instead of wasting time trying to insert the government's foot between women and their doctors, we should be kick-starting the economy by investing in our small businesses, schools, roads, and bridges."
