McKinley Statement on September Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Oct. 7, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) issued the following statement after the September Jobs Report showed the nation's unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent for the second consecutive month. The unemployment rate has remained over 8 percent for 32 straight months leaving currently 14 million Americans jobless.

"Today's jobs report continues to prove that President Obama's first stimulus did not work," said McKinley. "While there are a few parts of his so-called jobs bill on which we can work together, he must be willing to work with the other side and accept some our ideas as well. For instance, the House is scheduled to take up my jobs bill on coal ash late next week. It is one of many jobs bills the House has passed that the president and the Senate are ignoring. As he tours the country campaigning on his so-called jobs bill, which is mostly a repeat of his first failed stimulus, I hope he looks at the stagnant 9.1% unemployment rate and realizes his second stimulus, as an all-or-nothing package and paid for by tax hikes, will not work. The president should abandon the divisive rhetoric and worn-out liberal policies and work together with the other side to get Americans back to work. We can't waste any more time."
