Johanns Seeking Military Academy Applicants As Deadline Approaches

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) will continue to accept applications for nomination to the five U.S. service academies through Friday, October 14, 2011. Each year, Johanns nominates qualified students between the ages of 17 and 23 for admission to the service academies: Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Military Academy at West Point, and the Naval Academy. The academies then select cadets and midshipmen based on recommendations from Members of Congress.

Students interested in applying may contact Johanns' project coordinator Vicki Althage at academy_nominations@johanns.senate.gov or by calling (402) 758-8981. Application packets can be found at www.johanns.senate.gov and must be postmarked by October 14, 2011 to be considered. Applicants are also reminded to work with their respective academies to complete additional application requirements.
