Talk To Buddy: Spending Cuts

Location: Unknown

Question: Christina, Lanett
Hi, Christina Duke from Lanett, AL. I just watched the last few moments of your interview on FoxNews. I really enjoyed your plain spoken approach. I agree that jobs and spending cuts are the way to boost the economy but if we close the Dept of Energy will that not cost many jobs as well? How do you propose to replace the jobs that are lost due to spending cuts with your five year plan?

Buddy's Answer:
Christina, I don't know if I should answer your great question since you guys stole our football coach from LSU (Nick Sabin) for the leadership role at Roll Tide. But heck, you might be an Auburn Lady anyway. I try for 2 for 1 cuts where we not only save money, but we also improve policy and grow jobs throughout the nation. I try to increase opportunity for all while balancing the budget and make the country stronger. For example, we need to be Energy Independent and stop sending $750 billion a year for foreign oil. I'd rather spend that money here and drill for oil and gas safely in America. When I do that I create 1 to 3 million new jobs here in America, I strengthen the dollar which drops the price of a gallon of gasoline significantly, which helps every small business owner and driver and creates wealth for the average American, I reduce the deficit by $140 billion a year, I reduce the burden on the taxpayer and on business, and these businesses then feel free to grow and soon are hiring new people in addition to the 1 to 3 million from drilling. What did I lose by creating 3 to 5 million new jobs, reducing the debt, and making America stronger? 50,000 government jobs which we don't need and can't afford! We can't afford the size of this government at 25 percent of GDP. We are going broke and that hurts every job holder. I will reduce the size of government by 1 percent of GDP a year and do it over 5-years and help every government worker who loses their job to find a job in the private sector where jobs will be created again. I was able to do it in Louisiana, where in 4-years, we took unemployment from 12 percent to 6 percent. Now, we will have to make other cuts over the next 4-years to the tune of about $140 Billion a year (1 percent), but I will always try to follow my two for one rule, creating many more new private sector jobs than the government jobs we cannot afford. For example, we should consolidate Information Technology (IT) and standardize software, saving billions. We should eliminate Foreign Aid. We should reduce the number of the 1100 military bases we have overseas. We should replace half the 42 percent of Federal workers who will retire in the next 10 years with modern technology and you will save billions and billions and you wouldn't have fired a worker in most cases. My goal is a government we can afford and an economy that is growing new jobs. Government will shrink and the economy will expand. There will be some serious bumps in the road, but this policy is essential to the health of a nation. I know I sound like a banker which I am, and I know I sound like a guy who has done this before which I did as Governor of Louisiana. As a matter of fact, I am the only person running for President who is a commercial banker. I am also the only person running who has been both a Governor and a United States Congressman. We can do better and I ask that you give a chance to do just that, Thanks and hope to see you when I am in Alabama.
