Congressman Pascrell Reacts to President's Deficit Reduction Plan

Statement

Date: Sept. 19, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-08), New Jersey's only member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, which oversees the tax code and mandatory spending accounts such as Medicare, made the following statement in reaction to the President's deficit reduction plan:

"The plan helps provide Congress a pathway towards reducing the deficit by over $3 trillion over ten years by asking everyone to contribute. As we move forward, it is important to remember that job creation must be the number one priority of Congress. The President's plan for deficit reduction and the American Jobs Act provide two methods that can reduce our deficit, and spur economic growth and job creation. The American people have demanded that Congress put political gamesmanship behind us, and we must take this opportunity to come together to solve our fiscal problems."
