Womack Responds to House Passage of the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act

Statement

Date: Sept. 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the below statement following the House passage of H.R. 2587, the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act:

"Our current unemployment rate in the United States is 9.1 percent. 14 million Americans are looking for a job that doesn't exist. Why on earth, in our country's current situation, would the federal government tell American job creators where they can or cannot build a business? It makes no sense.

"Today, the House passed H.R. 2587, the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act, to prohibit the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from doing just that. Employers, like Boeing, are far more suited to make decisions regarding their own company--including the location of its operations--without government interference.

"It's this very kind of overregulation which is strangling businesses and stifling private sector job creation. American businesses will flourish when government removes regulatory restraints and gets out of the way. Today's vote is another step in the right direction, but we have a long journey ahead of us. I encourage the president and Senate to join us in giving American job creators the certainty they so desperately need."
